In an age where sustainability is all important, a claim to be the most sustainable office in the world is a bold one, but Bloomberg’s London HQ is just that according to architect Foster + Partners.
The building itself achieved ‘outstanding’ status through the BREEAM sustainability assessment method with an impressive 98.5% score. The highest design stage score achieved by any major office development.
So, what makes it so special? The office is said to consume 40% less power for lighting and reuses enough water in a single year to fill 10 Olympic pools! It also features innovative features, such as Carbon Dioxide sensors which will direct fresh air to wherever most people in the building are located.
Founder of Bloomberg L.P., Michael Bloomberg said: “We believe that environmentally-friendly practices are as good for business as they are for the planet. From day one, we set out to push the boundaries of sustainable office design - and to create a place that excites and inspires our employees. The two missions went hand-in-hand, and I hope we’ve set a new standard for what an office environment can be.”
The buildings power, water, lighting and ventilation is reportedly what earned it such a high score in sustainability with cutting edge technologies that could well mean it is indeed, the greenest office building in the whole world.
