September sales have leapt up after a disappointing and abrupt end to summer in August. Bad weather seems to have curved the traditionally high spend over the bank holiday weekend. However sales in September have recovered being 3.9% higher than the same period last year.

It is thought that due to the Rugby World Cup food sales have grown by 0.2%. Non-food sales were up 3.7%. This is ahead of the last year’s average of 3.3%.

Unexpectedly, the British summer wasn’t as disappointing as previously thought. July to September saw an overall rise of 2.2% when compared to last year.

Clothing retailers also experienced a growth with the usual ‘back to school’ offers. Furniture sales were also up, following on from a mild Indian summer where autumn is expected to stay dry. This means that there is still time to take advantage of the garden before preparing it for the winter shut down.
