A construction team working in Hackney, East London stumbled upon an unexploded 2^nd World War bomb on Monday 10^th August. This led to a 200m exclusion zone being enforced by the police and locals being unable to return to their homes from work. A make shift shelter was made in the local school for families to stay in until they can return home.

The bomb was found by a team of builders who were working in a basement. Police, Firefighters and Bomb Disposal Experts from the MOD were there within minutes and working on defusing the 250kg bomb. The Luftwaffe heavily bombed London during World War II, particularly East London because of the Docks, Factories and the Thames.

A spokesperson for the MOD said ‘We can confirm that a specialist military bomb disposal team from 11 EOD Regiment, Royal Logistics Corps are on site in Bethnal Green and are assisting the police with the on going incident involving a WWII German aircraft bomb that was discovered earlier today’.

Sky News is reporting that delays in the local area are expected to last a while longer yet, after Scotland Yard announced ‘significant’ delays were likely.This follows on from unexploded bombs being found near Wembley Stadium and in Bermondsey earlier this year.
