Changes to the UK apprenticeship system have been welcomed by British Retail Consortium Director General, Stephen Robertson.

In response to a package of measures announced by Skills Minister John Hayes, Mr Robertson said: “Retailers are

firm supporters of apprenticeships. More than a third of retail employees are under the age of 25 and our members are committed

to staff training and development...The current apprenticeship system is too difficult to navigate and a major administrative burden.

“This package of measures is a very welcome effort to put that right. Simplifying the system should make the process easier for businesses and ensure more apprenticeship opportunities are created. The priority now must be to put these plans into action swiftly.”
